Parading silent through the trees,
The elves progress in single file
And let their hair blow in the breeze.
They walk in quiet for a while,
And other times they walk along
And play and sing and laugh and smile.
They sing their joyful forest-song
To all the creatures of the wood,
To all the things that there belong.
They find in each some life, some good,
For even in what feeds on death
Is beauty to be understood.
They sing in love, and every breath
Gives praise to fairest Elbereth.
The elves progress in single file
And let their hair blow in the breeze.
They walk in quiet for a while,
And other times they walk along
And play and sing and laugh and smile.
They sing their joyful forest-song
To all the creatures of the wood,
To all the things that there belong.
They find in each some life, some good,
For even in what feeds on death
Is beauty to be understood.
They sing in love, and every breath
Gives praise to fairest Elbereth.
